Horse Selection
Beyond Boundaries obtain horses by a free lease or donation. We cannot use every horse. Our horses are all taken on a trial basis to evaluate soundness, temperament, suitability and reliability.
Beyond Boundaries follows these guidelines to consider a horse to be a possible therapy horse:
• Current amount of horses on pasture
• Amount of riders in the program
• Budget
• Evaluation ride at owners house
• Prepurchase exam including x-rays by a veterinarian to prove soundness
• Current Coggins Test
• Current Vaccinations
• Horse that is able to walk, trot and canter.
• Horse that has had a previous career or experience
• Gelding
• 8-15 years old
• Any breed of horse but no gaited horses
• 13-16 hands tall
• Trial period up to 3 months
